Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute (LHPAI) serves a very important role in the Central Area. Formerly a synagogue, LHPAI celebrated its 50th year anniversary in 2022 and provides a space Black-centered art, education, community, and connection. Home to organizations like Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas (CD Forum) and (LANGSTON), this building is constantly active with live performances, community forums, arts classes, and festivals. It is also located within a few blocks of Pratt Fine Arts, Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park and Edwin T. Pratt Park, Coyote Central, and many options for public transit. There is also a large green area complete with shade trees and picnic tables that inviting people to spend time in and out of the space.
