Commodore Park is located on the south side of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, just across the Ballard Locks. The park has a grassy hillside, promenade, and park benches. Visible in the red alder trees lining the hillside in Commodore Park are the nests of the Great Blue Heron colony. The large birds can be seen swooping around the area often. Heron Habitat Helpers, a local community group, help preserve, restore, and monitor this other heron habitats.
